We are pleased to share the news of the release of the Australian Curriculum for Languages: Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages from ACARA.

The Queensland Indigenous Languages Advisory Committee has had ongoing involvement in the consultation process for the development of the Framework.

A message from ACARA

Following endorsement by the Education Council last week, ACARA has published the Australian Curriculum: Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages on the Australian Curriculum website.

Thank you for your contribution to the development and publication of these curricula documents.

The Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages is an important, if belated, development – given there are at least 250 distinct Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages spoken daily in Australia. The framework builds on existing language frameworks for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages, already used in some states and territories.

Finally, the Languages team would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and New Year and we look forward to working with you in 2016.

Kind Regards

The ACARA Languages Team
